Embattled former liquor and beer baron billionaire Vijay Mallya is expected to marry for the third time according to a report in the March 29, 2018 issue of the Mumbai Mirror. The report suggests that Mallya will formalize his three-year long relationship with Pinky Lalwani, a former air hostess of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines who has been standing by him through his legal troubles for the past three years, according to the paper. Mallya is wanted in India over huge unpaid loans and awkwardly is still married to his second wife Rekha Mallya with whom he has three children. They were wed in 1993.
Mallya is fighting extradition back to India where he owes Indian banks nearly $1.4 billion dollars which he borrowed to finance his ill-fated Kingfisher Airline. Some of that money allegedly was used to buy property and support his family, according to reports.
On Tuesday, a Delhi court ordered the attachment of the properties of Mallya, who has been declared a proclaimed offender for evading summons in a money laundering case.
Earlier this month, Mallya’s super-yacht was seized in Malta after the crew demanded back wages. The Indian Empress was blocked in Valletta harbor after 40 crewmembers, including Indians and Britons, initiated legal action claiming they are owed nearly a million dollars in back wages. The 310-foot yacht is believed to be worth some $93 million.
Meanwhile, Mallya and Lalwani are living at his $15-million dollar country mansion in Herefordshire outside of London.
There may yet be hope for the now defunct Mendocino Brewery. Rumors have it that some locals are trying to pick up the pieces and bring this iconic brewery back to life. Stay tuned…
