21st Amendment Cans Beers
By Jay Brooks
Shaun O’Sullivan and Nico Freccia, co-owners of the
21st Amendment Brewery, Restaurant and Bar in San Francisco,
proudly present their latest creation: craft beer in cans!
Two of O’Sullivan’s award-winning beers, IPA and
Watermelon Wheat, went on sale in cans in early May. Beer
cans, introduced in 1935, were very popular before falling
out of favor in the 1980s. But the technology has now improved
dramatically and removed the metallic flavors that previously
plagued cans.
In 2002, Colorado brewer Oskar Blues released Dale’s
Pale Ale, and the modern age of craft cans began. 21st Amendment’s
beers are the first Bay Area craft brews in cans. Both beers
are excellent, with virtually no difference between the draft
and canned ales.
